Beach Clubs in Barbados: A Guide for Villa Guests

Beach Clubs in Barbados: A Guide for Villa Guests

Barbados is known for its beautiful beaches, and the island's west coast, often called the Platinum Coast, is home to some of its calmest waters, most sought-after villas and best-known beachfront restaurants.

Beach clubs are a popular way to enjoy this coastline, giving guests an easy place to settle in by the sea during the day. For those staying in villas slightly further inland, beach club access can offer the best of both worlds: the space, privacy and views of a villa, with a comfortable beachfront base close by.

Mullins Beach on the west coast of Barbados There are a few different types of beach club access in Barbados. Some private beach clubs are linked to villa memberships, while other beach days may be arranged through day-pass beach clubs, beach bars or independent sunbed vendors. The key distinction is that Barbados' beaches are public, but the facilities beside them are not always public. Sun loungers, drinks service, bathrooms and shower facilities may all be privately managed, with access often depending on villa membership level.

Below, we have outlined the main private beach club options associated with villas in our Barbados portfolio, along with a few more casual beach-day options guests may enjoy during their stay.

How private beach club access works

Private beach club access is usually linked to specific villas through the property's membership level. Depending on the resort, this may give guests access to sun loungers, umbrellas, beach service, bathrooms, changing facilities, parking, dining areas or a shuttle service.

It is worth knowing that beach club access is not always the same as full resort or hotel access. A villa may include use of the beach club's loungers and beachfront facilities, but not the hotel pool, spa, tennis courts or wider resort amenities.

Access can also vary from one villa to another. Any membership or beach club access is shown under In Brief on each villa's page on our website, and our team is always happy to confirm the details for your chosen villa before you book.

The bar at Larry Rogers at Mullins Bay, the Royal Westmoreland Beach Club restaurant

Royal Westmoreland Beach Club

Many villas at Royal Westmoreland include either Social or Full Membership, which may give guests access to the Royal Westmoreland Beach Club at Mullins Beach on the island's west coast. A number of properties at Mullins Bay, just across from the beach, also include Beach Club membership with their stay.

Set on Mullins Beach, the beach club gives eligible guests a convenient coastal base away from the main estate. With shuttle access often available from Royal Westmoreland, it can feel like an easy extension of the resort: a familiar place to spend the day by the sea, with the beauty of Mullins Beach close at hand.

The restaurant at Mullins, Larry Rogers at Mullins Bay, is currently open to the public, but this does not mean everyone has access to the Royal Westmoreland beach loungers. Guests with the correct membership or access card will be given the relevant details for their villa and can check in with the beach attendant on arrival.

Social and Full Memberships at Royal Westmoreland include other benefits too, which we explain in more detail in our full guide to Royal Westmoreland memberships.

The entrance to the Sandy Lane Property Owners Beach Club

Sandy Lane Property Owners Beach Club

The Sandy Lane Property Owners Beach Club is one of the most exclusive beach club arrangements on the west coast, available to guests staying in qualifying villas on the Sandy Lane Estate.

The beach club sits at the southern end of Sandy Lane Beach, a separate facility from the famous hotel next door, reserved for estate property owners, their registered guests, and guests renting qualifying estate villas. It offers a calm and secluded beachfront base, with its own blue sun loungers (distinct from the hotel’s pink loungers), a bar serving food and drinks, and bathrooms, all on one of the island's most beautiful stretches of sand.

It is worth noting that access to the Property Owners Beach Club is not the same as access to the Sandy Lane Hotel. The hotel's pool, spa, tennis facilities and loungers remain reserved for hotel guests, although guests who have booked lunch at Bajan Blue can usually walk down the beach to the hotel, with the caveat that reservations are often limited to hotel guests during peak periods.

Guests are pre-registered ahead of arrival, with names held at the Sandy Lane gates and at the beach club itself, something our Guest Services team can arrange as part of your booking. There is parking at the beach club, although it can be limited during the busier winter season.

For many returning guests, this beach club is a highlight of a Sandy Lane Estate stay: quieter than the public beaches, beautifully kept, and with familiar faces year after year. For a closer look at what a stay with Beach Club access is really like, including the facilities, cabanas and practical details, read our experience of the Sandy Lane Estate Beach Club.

Ocean Escape, the Apes Hill beach club in Speightstown

Apes Hill Beach Club: Ocean Escape

Like Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane, the beach club at Apes Hill is reserved for its own members and guests. The resort itself sits high in the hills of St James, while Ocean Escape is its coastal base on the Speightstown waterfront, at the spot many returning visitors will remember as 1.11 East.

Opened in late 2025, it gives members and resort guests a managed west coast beach day, with loungers, umbrellas and towels provided on a complimentary basis, attentive beach service, and a bar and restaurant serving everything from breakfast through to sundowners at the water's edge. A dedicated shuttle links the resort and the beach club, around ten minutes down the hill.

This is a good option for guests drawn to Apes Hill for its space, views, golf and resort facilities, who still want a comfortable west coast beach base during their stay. For more on who can access Ocean Escape, what is included and the practical details to know, read our guide to Ocean Escape, Apes Hill’s Beach Club.

The terrace at the Fairmont Beach Club on Alleynes Bay

Fairmont Royal Pavilion Beach Club, Alleynes Bay

Some west coast villa rentals come with passes to the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Beach Club at Alleynes Bay (often referred to as the Fairmont Beach Club). These include villas at Sugar Hill , a small number at Royal Westmoreland, and a few other inland villa communities. At Royal Westmoreland, the villas with Fairmont Beach Club access hold membership there instead of access to the estate’s own beach club at Mullins.

Despite the name and the setting, just to the left of the Fairmont Royal Pavilion hotel, access works separately from the hotel: passes are held by certain villas rather than included with a hotel stay, and a Beach Club pass does not include the hotel's pool, spa or other facilities. It offers a relaxed and intimate beachfront base, with seating, light bites and sun beds on the sand, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests should bring their own towels, and it is an easy walk up Alleynes Bay to west coast favourites such as JuJu's and Lone Star.

It is worth noting that passes are limited to the number held by each villa, which may be fewer than the villa’s full occupancy, and additional passes cannot be purchased. Parking is usually available, although spaces can be more limited during the peak winter season. For more on access, pass numbers and what to expect during a day at the beach, read our guide to the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Beach Club at Alleynes Bay.

Lunch and cocktails at Bikini Beach Bar, Fitts Village

More casual beach-day options

Alongside the private beach clubs, the west coast has a number of beach bars and casual venues where anyone can enjoy a day by the sea, usually by hiring a sunbed for a daily fee. These offer a more flexible and informal style of beach day, and a few favourites stand out.

Bikini Beach, Fitts Village is a relaxed beach bar and day-club option known for its casual atmosphere and beachfront dining, with sun loungers available to hire and the cost redeemable against food and drinks at the bar. For our take on a day there, including the food, setting and what we enjoyed most, read about our visit to Bikini Beach Bar at Fitts Village.

Zaccio's, Holetown is a casual beachfront bar and restaurant at the Tropical Sunset Hotel, with sunbeds available to hire by the day. Well placed for a relaxed lunch or sunset drinks close to the shops and restaurants of Holetown.

Nauti HQ, Alleynes Bay is a family-friendly beachside grill with sunbed packages that include credit at the bar. The bay is also home to well-known watersports operators, making it a good choice for a more active day on the water.

Folkestone Marine Park, just north of Holetown, is not a beach club, but an area with parking, toilets, a play area and snorkel hire. The bay is a protected marine area with no jet skis, making it one of the best places on the island to snorkel straight from the beach.

A cold drink on a west coast beach in Barbados On many other west coast beaches, including Paynes Bay and Gibbs, independent vendors rent sunbeds and umbrellas by the day. Facilities are simpler, but for some guests this is all a good beach day requires: a lounger, an umbrella, a beautiful beach and the freedom to come and go as they please.

If you are planning a day on the south coast, venues such as The Boatyard and Harbour Lights on Carlisle Bay offer a very different style of beach day, with a livelier atmosphere and a more activity-led, day-pass setup. They can be fun for families and groups, but they are a different proposition from the west coast options above.

How we can help

For many guests, a regular beach club becomes part of the rhythm of a Barbados holiday for long lunches beside the sea, or a favourite sunbed spot to return to each day with children, towels and beach bags in tow.

Access arrangements can change by villa, season and membership level, so if beach club access is important to your plans, our team can confirm the current details for any villa you are considering, from the number of passes to pre-registration, parking and shuttles. Whether you are looking for a villa with private beach club access, a relaxed beach bar within walking distance, or simply a beautiful stretch of sand close by, our team can help you find the right fit for your group.
